Eyebrows and Lashes Aftercare: First 48 Hours After Eyebrow Threading

By Perfect Brows | October 2, 2026

I’ve had people tell me they stick with me for years because I’m professional, I take my time, and my shop stays clean and relaxing. To keep your fresh shape looking crisp after eyebrow threading, the single most important rule for the first 24 to 48 hours is simple: don’t touch your brows and keep the area as dry and calm as you can. Less friction means less redness, fewer bumps, and a cleaner outline.

Threading is expert manual hair removal that gives you a sharp, well-defined shape without overdoing it. A lot of my regulars describe it as quick and gentle, and I love that because it means you can get back to your day fast. The trade-off is that your skin can be a little reactive right after, especially in San Antonio heat and humidity. Good aftercare keeps your brows looking polished and symmetrical, instead of irritated and fuzzy around the edges.

The first 24 hours after eyebrow threading: dry, clean, hands off

Right after I finish your eyebrow threading, your skin is basically saying, “I’m open for business.” That’s why the first day matters most. Here’s what I generally recommend for the first 24 hours to protect your result and keep irritation down.

Do this

  • Keep your hands off. No rubbing, no brushing the hairs back and forth, and no picking at tiny bumps.
  • If you’re red, use a cold compress for a few minutes at a time. Clean cloth only.
  • Soothe with pure, fragrance-free aloe if you need something calming.

Skip this

  • No heavy face washing right away. Splashing is one thing, but don’t scrub the brow area.
  • No brow makeup for 24 to 48 hours if you can. Pencils, powders, and gels can clog and irritate freshly threaded skin.
  • No workouts that make you sweat, no sauna, and no swimming for at least 24 hours.

San Antonio note: If you step outside and it’s instantly humid, treat that like a workout. Sweat plus freshly threaded skin is a common reason redness sticks around longer than it needs to.

24 to 48 hours: bring back gentle cleansing, keep your shape sharp

At this point, most people look in the mirror and think, “These are perfect.” I hear that a lot, and I want you to keep that clean arch. You can usually resume gentle cleansing after 24 hours, but the keyword is gentle.

Use a mild cleanser and your fingertips, then pat dry. Don’t use a washcloth on the brow area yet. If you’re using skincare actives, keep them away from the brows for now. The goal is to let the skin settle so your threading result stays defined instead of inflamed.

If you have to wear makeup

I get it. Work happens. If you can’t wait the full 48 hours, keep product off the freshly threaded skin as much as possible and remove makeup gently later. And don’t “fix” the shape by plucking at home. A lot of the “my brows got thin” stories start that way.

If you’re a gym-goer

Give it 24 hours before heavy sweating, minimum. If you push it earlier, you’re more likely to feel stingy irritation, especially in Sonterra and Stone Oak where heat can hit you the second you walk outside.

The first week after threading: avoid exfoliants, retinoids, and chemical treatments near brows

For the next 7 days, think “protect the skin, protect the outline.” Threading removes hair cleanly, but the follicles and surrounding skin still need time to calm down. This is when people accidentally cause bumps by layering the wrong products too close to the brow.

  • Skip exfoliants near the brow for a week, including scrubs and chemical exfoliants. That also means no aggressive cleansing brushes around the brow line.
  • Avoid retinoids and alcohol-based toners close to the brow area for 7 days. They can sting and over-dry skin that’s already sensitive.
  • Don’t pick. If you see a tiny bump, leave it alone. Picking is how a small issue turns into lingering irritation.
  • Be smart with sun. After the first 24 hours, lightweight SPF is your friend, especially in San Antonio. Try to avoid rubbing sunscreen back and forth over the brow line.

That longer-lasting, clean look is exactly what we’re protecting with the week-one rules. If you’re also doing services like waxing, a bikini wax, or a brazilian wax, keep skincare simple in those areas too. Calm skin always heals better.

Products I actually like after brows are done: keep it simple

You don’t need a complicated routine after your eyebrows are done. You need a calm routine. Here are the product types that tend to help the most in the first few days, especially if your skin runs sensitive.

Go-to basics

  • Gentle cleanser (no exfoliating beads).
  • Fragrance-free aloe gel for calming.
  • Lightweight SPF after 24 hours. Pat it on around the brow, don’t scrub.

Hold off for 7 days

Retinoids near the brows, strong acids, chemical peels, and alcohol-heavy toners. If you’re doing facials near me searches and planning an acne facial, microdermabrasion, hydra facial, or anything active, tell me first so we can time it well around your threading.

Quick note on tinting: If you’re planning a brow tint or eyebrow tint, keep your brow skin calm first. I’ll help you choose timing that keeps color looking even and natural.

When to reach out to me in Sonterra and Stone Oak (and what’s normal)

A little redness right after threading is normal. Mild tenderness can be normal too. What I don’t want you doing is waiting and hoping it just goes away if something feels off.

Usually normal

  • Redness that settles within a few hours.
  • Slight sensitivity when you wash your face gently the next day.

Reach out

  • Worsening redness that spreads instead of calming down.
  • Irritation with pus or signs of infection.
  • Persistent bleeding or anything that makes you nervous.

“I’ve been a customer for a few years and wouldn’t see anyone else! Thank you for making me feel so comfortable and always doing such a great job 😊”

If you’re searching brow threading near me and you’re coming from Live Oak, Selma, Schertz, Converse, or Universal City, you’re close enough to make brows part of your routine.
